Can't call it a boring year for menswear, can it? Looking back, it's without a doubt one of the most diverse, colorful, and expressive spells we've had in a long time. Clothing is fun again.Fashion trends for menthey were chaotic and contradictory. people free themselves. Men trusted each other. Rigid minimalism has been replaced.
That year, 23-year-old Timothée Chalamet and 66-year-old Pierce Brosnan became fashion icons. The 90s were hot, but so were the 70s, 50s and 80s: Tailoring relaxed, sustainability got serious and there was no shortage of cross-fertilizing brands.
What it all means for the common man is this: options. More of this than we've had in a long, long time. This could be the most exciting time menswear has ever seen, maybe ever. And in a year when all bets were off, this 25best dressed menThey were there to show us how: lead the trends, break the rules or stick to the classics, their message was the same: wear what you want and do it with a smile in the face.
25. Troye Sivan
You can't go anywhere now without hearing Troye Sivan's name echo off the wall. In fact, it's no surprise that it's been a big year for the South African-born Australian, who has been in the spotlight thanks to roles alongside Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe and a Golden Globe nomination.
Countless photo shoots have given him the chance to show us his style style and we like what we see. It's all about a skillful mix of structured tailoring and statement shirts, lots of color and just a touch of gender-specific makeup.
24. Tyler, the creator
While his style is quite original, Tyler the Creator actually toned things down a bit in 2019. He amplifies it with knits, cardigans and sleeveless sweaters that go a long way. Of course there was her pastel collab with Lacoste, one of the highlights being the pink mohair-style cardigan she wore to the French Open. All in all, it was a big year for the California native: he toured the world with his album "Igor" from 2019, his alter ego wore countless colorful outfits and this blonde wig.
Take off the wig and these outfits work surprisingly well. Simple in style, most often with white Dr Martens on their feet, it's just another example of tailoring's big comeback. Elsewhere, Tyler has continued his preppy-casual approach, often dressing like something somewhere between Fresh Prince's Carlton and an Arnold Palmer skate outfit, and it works. Tyler has always subverted notions of how a rapper is expected to dress, which is why he's awesome.
23. Odell Beckham Jr.
American sportswear and menswear have not always coexisted perfectly. Google "NBA Draft 2003" and witness some of the worst drafts you will ever see. One of the most stylish players of the moment, Lebron James carries a puffy marshmallow. However, Odell Beckham Jr. was only 11 at the time and his generation grew up in a completely different fashion landscape.
When the NFL wide receiver was designed in 2014, fashion was already on the minds of American athletes. He wore a tailored window suit with a bow tie, pocket handkerchief, and flashy diamond watch. Things are moving again today and Beckham Jr. is one of the most innovative players in the league.
Street-minded and brand-heavy, he even wore a Louis Vuitton x Supreme orthopedic boot for his injured ankle. He's also one of the best treated men in the dressing room, and along with James Harden, he's one of the best.best beardsin American sports.
22. Mahershala Ali
IfMahershala AliShe won her second Oscar at the 2019 awards show, accepting the gong wearing a formal cap. The fact that he looks classy and not ridiculous like he does says a lot about how well this man can dress.
In a year in which he also headlined True Detective and landed the role of Blade in the MCU, his style was one of quiet arrogance. It looks just as stylish in double-denim as it does red-carpet tailoring, but the latter has us on edge this year. With micro-precise cuts, interesting colors and unusual accessories, it was proven that the costume is far from dead.
21. Zac Efron
Zac Efrons HaareHe was having a year almost as good as the man himself. Earlier in the year, Efron rocked a shocking white bleach (and somehow succeeded) and caught our attention long before his role as serial killer Ted Bundy got everyone talking.
If you're annoyingly good-looking, you can take a gamble with your style, but what we like about the way Efron dresses is that it's not difficult at all. He tends towards classics such as denim jackets, cardigans and tailored two-piece suits. There's a lot of experimentation going on in menswear right now, and that's great, but here's a reminder that for many men, vintage clothing is still the best.
20. Enrique Golding
While Henry Golding first piqued our interest last year, this year was Golding's chance to really cement his status as one of the best-dressed men on earth, which he took and shattered. Sure, the protagonist's good looks and bubbly charm certainly helped, but natural gifts aside, Golding's dress sense showed an impressive reverence for the importance of making sure everything fits perfectly.
In his numerous forays into tailoring, all the classics have been chosen with aplomb (read: velvet, black tie), but he's also proven to be an expert at edgier looks, with bright red blocks and light gray looks working particularly well.
19. Free Ocean
Frank Ocean is arguably the most individual dresser on this list. But not in a blatant, over the top way. He knows what he likes and doesn't follow brands or trends. This is a man who quietly showed up to Paris Fashion Week in a yellow jacket by relatively unknown Swiss ski brand Mammut, while everyone else was dressed by the designers whose shows were attending.
He went to the Met Gala disguised as a bouncer in an all-black Prada while working as a photographer snapping photos for Vogue. He drives BMWs from the 1980s while his contemporaries compete for the latest supercars. He wears worn-out vintage Nikes while everyone else rocks Balenciaga.
Most modern celebrities (including many on this list) hire stylists to get them dressed, which, let's face it, is cheating. A professional stylist would never recommend a client to wear some of the looks Ocean wears and that's why we rate them so highly. He's doing his thing and that should be celebrated.
18. Eddie Redmayne
Eddie Redmayne's always elegant style hasn't changed much in the last five years, and that's no bad thing. Well done, preppy style is hard to beat and Redmayne leads the way. From college-inspired outfits to tailored suits, the Fantastic Beasts star rarely goes wrong and pays tribute to his wife. There is a way to save on hiring a stylist.
17. Rami Malek
Oscar winner, Bond villain, style hero. It must really suckRami Malek. He may have been living in sweats during his breakout role in Mr. Robot, but off-screen Malek's style is much more polished. Combine perfect tailoring with some signature touches that wouldn't look out of place in Mick Jagger's touring wardrobe. Think bold printed shirts or the occasional corduroy jacket.
There's a certain swagger here, but part of the confidence to pull it off might come from the fact that he bases everything he wears on staples like tailored black pants. That and the fact that he's Rami Malek.
16. Brad Pitt
Here's a funny thing: Tyler Durden is way more stylish than he is.Brad Pitt. The actor is a fashion icon, but when he's not in a tuxedo, Pitt looks comfortable, and how shall I put it? – artistically negligent. It works because a) he's incredibly handsome and b) his many stylish roles fuel his megawatt personality.
Despite all that, he's been looking pretty good this year, both on and off screen. In Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he wore 1960s and 1970s clothing consisting of double denim, vintage T-shirts, leather jackets and Hawaiian shirts. And in advertising, he oscillated between excellent tailoring and defiantly casual looks, including flat hats, baggy trousers and T-shirts worn over long-sleeved blouses. Many people cannot do this. Brad Pitt can.
15. Nicholas Hoult
The Nicholas Hoult range of menswear has been on the rise for a number of years, but this year saw it peak. No wonder, given his flair for unmatched color tailoring, from a subtle navy tuxedo to a 1970s-inspired blue and yellow look and everything in between.
Far from being a one-trick pony when not dressed in a suit and boots, he's often seen sporting a set of killer suede jackets worn over patterned shirts and dark jeans. There's something about this kid.
14. Mark Ronson
The release of his new album Late Night Feelings has meant that 2019 saw more Mark Ronson performances than we are traditionally used to. As is usual with Ronson, this meant plenty of retro tailoring that was far from boring, everything was colourful, richly textured and always worn with the manufacturer's trademark nonchalance.
In fact, we'd go so far as to say that Ronson was a living rebuttal to those who predicted the end of streetwear tailoring.
13. David Beckham
After a few setbacks in the 1990s, this decade has seen a lotDavid BeckhamHe's fully transformed into a seasoned menswear master, and 2019 was a testament to the Goldenballs' consistency, with not a foot out of place (as far as we know).
We had an endless list of complementary haircuts and occasional additions to an already sizable tattoo collection, and as always, Mr. Beckham showed up smelling of roses. For us, Beckham was in his prime at Wimbledon this year and it's no exaggeration to say that everyone else in attendance pales in comparison. But it also, as always, featured chicer casual pieces like suede bombers and wraparound Dior tailoring. He still has.
12. Donald Glover
As one of the most successful multi-hyphenated people in the world, it's no surprise that Donald Glover's wardrobe defies all categorization, reason, or logic. On paper, Glover's flashy, boldly patterned suits, crazy flourishes and penchant for being shirtless under the tailoring sound like things that make him unfit for a best-dressed list, but here we (again) nod in agreement, very much in agreement crazy glover. It's a good wardrobe.
11. Shawn Mendes
What did you do when you were 21? Singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes has released three number one albums in the US to date, crafting a flawless modern rock 'n' roll style that pays tribute to the past while still feeling fresh today.
Tailoring embellished with luxe accents is her forte, complemented with a pair of Chelsea boots and rock star jewelry, while Parisian labels Saint Laurent and The Kooples are among her favorite brands, each showcasing the seductive monochromatic style that left her brightly pop Idol to one of the coolest figures in men's fashion.
10. Pierce Brosnan
To say that Pierce Brosnan (aged 66) got sort of a second chance would be an understatement, to be honest he's been consistently stylish for as long as anyone can remember. This year's highlights include mastering classic suiting, proving that suede bombers are perfectly at home for those well past their youth, and leaving go-anywhere sunglasses that look achingly cool instead of ostentatious.
Oh, and then there's the expertly styled silver hair, which only adds to Brosnan's timeless appeal. All in all (another) vintage for the man formerly known as Bond.
9. Dylan Sprouse
It's a sweet life Dylan Sprouse leads. Not only has the former Disney child star landed a Victoria's Secret angel and the kind of bone structure people are looking for, but she also has one of the best wardrobes around.
Luxurious fabrics, thick leather jackets, electric tailoring - everything looks expensive and well-made. The cut also plays a key role, not too skinny to accentuate your slender body, it's a roomier fit that harkens back to a more elegant era. He may be a hot young man in Hollywood right now, but he dresses like a legend.
8. Timothee Chalamet
The fandom is really withTimothee Chalamet. From moms in Ohio in their 60s to teenagers in Korea, there's something about Hollywood celebrities that induces a frenzy. For some it's passionate acting, for others angel hair. Both are gorgeous, but what caught our attention the most was their innovative approach to red carpet dressing.
As the muse of haute couture genius Haider Ackermann, the designer took the actor to all sorts of space-age tailoring this year, as the star was one of the first to wear the infamous Louis Vuitton sleeve. Sure, both would look like a real trainwreck to 99.9% of men, but in Chalamet they look out of this world. More importantly, they give a glimpse of what men might be wearing ten years from now. 7. A$AP Rocky
Hip hop and clothing have always gone hand in hand. But few rappers have embraced each other over timecontraltoFashion with as much panache as A$AP Rocky. She dresses boldly, not afraid of colour, print or babushka, and wears everything from Rick Owens to Dior, Prada to Raf Simons. But hey, A$AP Rocky isn't afraid of anything, not even the overzealous Swedish courts. And that reflects in the way he wears his clothes.
She's got enough bragging rights for a nation, and her fearless approach means she exudes confidence – there's really nothing she can't do, and she often looks better in designer clothes than the models who wear them on the runway. From large pink Loewe suits to tie-dye, from leather jackets to furs, anything goes.
6. Chadwick Bosemann
Chadwick Bosemannknows how to wear a suit. Which is a good job because when she's not filming blockbuster movies, she's usually on the red carpet promoting them. He enjoys tailoring, and does so by wearing sassy jacquard silk tuxedos, brightly colored suits, and favoring unusual cuts. And a draw is rarely in sight. Boseman is one of the key figures pushing the boundaries of red carpet tailoring, and for that alone he deserves a spot on this list.
But he's also adept at dressing demure, preferring tight dark jeans, sneakers, and some sort of light jacket over them. He's never too stylish and always looks enviably comfortable in whatever he wears, something we can all aspire to.
5. Shia Labeouf
Shia Labeouf is the undisputed king of bastards and seems to be going against the trend, at least on the surface. Make no mistake, he knows what he's doing. The man has been at the forefront of every "uncool" trend in recent years, from the return of grunge to city wear.
This year, however, something very unexpected happened. Off duty he continued the always underdressed thing, but on the red carpet he looked like a modern day Don Draper. That doesn't mean tight suits and tie pins, it means wearing very modern tailoring in a very modern way while looking like you're having a good time.
4. Michael B. Jordan
Our best-dressed man of 2018 has worn his form all year without missing a beat or adjusting the formula (why would you?). HeMichael JordanThe winning combo includes finely tuned tailoring and easy-to-copy streetwear looks. No wonder luxury brand Coach chose him as their face.
But here's something the Creed star isn't so easy to steal: She appears to have a Mary Poppins-style bag containing an endless collection of amazing coats.
3. Tom Holland
If the mark of a truly well-dressed man is the ability to look good on both formal and informal occasions,Tom Hollandhe always preaches. Part of the ever-present Marvel Universe, he was everywhere all year long, and on both the promotional tour and the red carpet, the web-slinger wasn't a hair out of place. We'd love to wear the casual plaid pants he wore everyday to a Spider-Man fan event in Seoul. Any chance Tom?

Harry StylesHe's best known for his smooth rock tunes and jagger-esque dance moves, but in recent years the former director has also established himself as one of the best-dressed men in the music industry.

But while we admire trendsetters and rule-breakers alike, it's only possible to dress like Harry Styles or Tyler the Creator if you're Harry Styles or Tyler the Creator. In the end, we always come back to someone who wears clothes that are easy to wear.
For our money, no one has transcended the worlds of haute couture and everyday style better this year thanJake Gyllenhaal. He dabbled in trends (tie-dye, sloppy tailoring) and turned to the classics (Harrington jackets, fisherman's knit). Occasionally she does something flashy, but mostly she sticks to fashion rules that apply to everyone, not just Hollywood types with savvy stylists.
The colors suit him well, the fits are always right and above all he wears the clothes, she doesn't. As men's fashion becomes bolder and flashier, it's worth remembering.
